Description: An outing to Great Wood overlooking Derwent Water, and an amble along the eastern shore of Derwent Water.

Leaving the Market Place, we head along St John’s Street, Ambleside Road and Springs Road eventually reaching a path that ascends through Springs Wood and towards Castlerigg Farm. Just after the telecomms mast, we stike south westwards along a path through Great Wood. Descending gradually we reach the Borrowdale Road and cross over it to reach Calfclose Bay. The return leg of the walk follows the eastern shoreline of Derwent Water passing Strandshag Bay and Friar’s Crag until we reach the Boat House and Theatre by the Lake. From here its a short walk back to the Market Square.

Please check the weather and bring appropriate clothing (waterproofs and spare warm clothing), footwear and enough food and water. The leader reserves the right to turn away any walker not suitably equipped. The leader may cancel the walk or modify the route dependent on conditions.

New members: please note the walk leader may ask for more information about your walking experience. This is to ensure you have the fitness required to complete the walk that is planned safely.
