Please allow plenty of time to find a parking space so that walks can start promptly.

Description: A short outing to the rocky viewpoint of Keldas overlooking Ullswater. Leaving the car park we walk by the A592 southwards towards Patterdale for 10 minutes or so. On crossing Grisedale Bridge we bear SW onto the quiet road to Thornhow. The road climbs gradually alongside Grisedale Beck below. Before Thornhow we bear NW and thread our way up the open fellside towards Lanty’s Tarn. This small sheet of water nestled beside Keldas and surrounded by woodland is a lovely quiet spot to linger. From the tarn its a short climb up to Keldas. We leave the summit by the same path we ascended from Lanty’s Tarn, and then make our way down the fellside towards the path running alongside the south bank of Glenridding Beck and back to the car park.

Please check the weather and bring appropriate clothing (waterproofs and spare warm clothing), footwear and enough food and water. The leader reserves the right to turn away any walker not suitably equipped. The leader may cancel the walk or modify the route dependent on conditions.

New members: please note the walk leader may ask for more information about your walking experience. This is to ensure you have the fitness required to complete the walk that is planned safely.
