This is the next entry in my series of obscure, unloved and hard-to-get-to Wainwrights. This walk has just the one Wainwright: Ullscarf, which falls under obscure and unloved. Ullscarf sits just outside the Langdale Wainwrights though is a high one of the Central Fells with a summit height of 727 meters.
Starting from Wythburn in Thirlmere we follow the river of Wyth Burn westwards to get to Greenup Edge, and then swing around eastwards to get to the top of the great grassy Ullscarf. Next we descend northwards passing by Standing Crag before taking a hard right to Harrop Tarn, which is a very beautiful mountain lake with one half bordered by forest and the other half bordered by crags, before returning to the start point.
Because of the gradual ascent this is a moderate walk and not too strenuous.
