Camping – Coniston Sports & Social Centre
Optional alternative: YHA Coniston Holly How
For anyone who’d prefer a bed over a tent, YHA Coniston Holly How is a 3-star hostel with private and en-suite rooms as well as dorms, sitting in the heart of the Lake District and offering easy access to the village and Coniston Water. It’s about a 15–20 minute walk from the Sports & Social Centre. It’s located a quarter mile north of Coniston, just off the A593 to Ambleside. With a licensed bar, self-catering kitchen, and breakfast/evening meal options. Parking is available on site, and dogs aren’t permitted in the main hostel (only in the camping/cabin accommodation), so dog-owners will still need to camp or find other pet-friendly options. Rooms and dorm beds can be booked direct via yha.org.uk — worth booking early as it can fill up on summer weekends.
Format
Ben will be arriving to the camping group Friday pm for an evening walk TBD. Main walks Saturday and Sunday.
Ben will be bringing a gas cooker and some pots so if you want to cook your own food or heat water you’re welcome to use this. If you have specific dietary/religious needs then I suggest bringing your own pots/plates.
Pub dinners also available from the numerous in the area.
Walks
Saturday: Ben will lead a hilltop walk to Levers Water, Wetherlam, Swirl How, Great Carrs, Grey Friar, Levers Hause and return to Coniston. You can shorten the route after each summit, or simply walk to Levers Water and back should you wish. Total 17km, 1025m ascent. Grading Strenuous (due to the distance). More details TBC

Sunday: Ben will lead a walk to Coniston Old Man, Brum Fell, Dow Crag, and return via the Quarry. 16km, 910m ascent. Grading Strenuous.

Both Saturday and Sunday routes have shorter variations available. Should the weather be poor a lower level alternative may be provided.
