Summary

An outing to two prized viewpoints overlooking Windermere and surrounding countryside.

Description

Leaving the village centre we walk down to Millerground via Birthwaite Road. Queen Adelaide’s Hill is then ascended via a grassy path. The hill provides excellent views of Windermere and the central fells. We descend gently off the hill and cross the A592, and follow a path up to the A591 by St Mary’s Church. Its then a short walk by the A591 crossing it carefully to take a residential road linking to a path along the wooded flanks of Orrest Head.

The route to the summit takes us through more woodland until we reach the open fellside. Orrest Head is a superb viewpoint providing far reaching views. Our return to Windermere is via the driveway to Orrest Head Farm, a short quick descent to Windermere village centre.

If you have any questions about the walk and how to reach the meeting point please contact the walk leader, Damian in advance.

Please check the weather and bring appropriate clothing (waterproofs and spare warm clothing), footwear and enough food and water. The leader reserves the right to turn away any walker not suitably equipped. The leader may cancel the walk or modify the route dependent on conditions.
