It is the responsibility of each walker to make sure they understand where to park. If you are not sure where the car parking/meeting point is, you must contact the walk leader at the latest the day before the walk. You should not rely on mobile phones or postcodes. There is often no mobile reception near walk meeting points and postcodes are for the nearest place nearby but should only serve as a guideline. Please allow plenty of time to find a parking space so that walks can start promptly.
Description: This is a circular walk that takes us through the South Lakeland scenery along the old Lancaster Canal bed on the first half and following the course of the River Kent on the return.
Route: We set off from the laybys and take the public footpath overlooking Sedgwick House and up to the old canal bed. We then follow this all the way to Kendal, at times walking on the old towpath, passing under the attractive stone bridges that adorn the route and passing Sedgwick and Natland along the way.
Once at the south end of Kendal, marked by the town sign on Natland Road, we walk the short distance to the River Kent then turn back south to follow its course and parallel to the direction that the water flows, passing Hawes Bridge and Robin Hood’s Island until reaching the ‘bouncy’ suspension bridge that takes us back across to the west bank and the short walk back to where we started on Nannypie Lane.
Please check the weather and bring appropriate clothing (waterproofs and spare warm clothing), footwear and enough food and water. The leader reserves the right to turn away any walker not suitably equipped. The leader may cancel the walk or modify the route dependent on conditions.
New members: please note the walk leader may ask for more information about your walking experience. This is to ensure you have the fitness required to complete the walk that is planned safely.
