Car parking: There are several lay-bys on the road north and east of Hudson Place.

It is the responsibility of each walker to make sure they understand where to park. If you are not sure where the car parking/meeting point is, you must contact the walk leader at the latest the day before the walk. You should not rely on mobile phones or postcodes. There is often no mobile reception near walk meeting points and postcodes are for the nearest place nearby but should only serve as a guideline. Please allow plenty of time to find a parking space so that walks can start promptly.

Description: This is an alternative walk to the Saturday 18th July one that goes to Sca Fell and Slight Side. This walk is considerably gentler and the fells much lower in height, but they still belong in the series of walks that goes to obscure, unloved and hard-to-get-to Wainwrights.

Starting from the farmhouse we first go northwest  to get to Iredale Place before arcing around leftwards to reach a path/track which is just in the moorland. From there we head roughly southwards to ascend Burnbank Fell, which is 475 meters. There’s only one brief steep section so the ascent should be quite leisurely.

From Burnbank Fell there are mound-like mountains in many directions, but we continue south and go a bit higher to reach Blake Fell which is 573 meters high. It’s from Blake Fell that the steep rolling hills around the lake of Cogra Moss can be clearly seen, while all around are broad views of the northwest fells and some of the western fells.

Next we continue southwards on a grassy / dirt path to reach the last mountain of the day: Gavel Fell which comes in at 526 meters. This has similar views though we are closer to the western fells.

We then double back a bit until finding a path that runs northeast and descends down all the way to High Nook Farm. Towards the better there are some great craggy rock faces to look at and the general view of Loweswater, especially in late Spring and in Summer, is very green and pleasant to look at.

The final section of the walk is walking along a bit of the western shoreline of Loweswater and through Holme Wood to return to Hudson Place. Thus concluding the walk.

Please fill out the Registration Form to join by 10pm on Saturday 18 July if you are coming on this walk.
