Description: We walk out west from Coniston first on a very quiet road which becomes a rocky track (the Walna Scar Road), climbing gradually to the high point of the track at 600m. Here we turn north and leave the track. We have a short climb to Brown Pike (682m), then carry on along a ridge taking in Buck Pike (744m) and the impressive Dow Crag (778m). To our right we have great views as the ridge drops away to Goat’s Water. We descend to Goat’s Hawse, then make the final ascent of the day to the Old Man of Coniston (803m). From here we take the shorter descent to the east back to the village. We can walk back through the Coppermine valley if there’s time. I might vary the route depending on the weather.

Please contact Walk leader Stephen on 07596 107797 by 8pm the night before if you intend to join this walk.

We strongly advise walkers to carry hand sanitiser and to touch as little as possible during the walk. We will walk 2m apart as much as possible. We will not be able to share any equipment, drinks or food. If we need to go through a gate, the walk leader will take responsibility for opening and closing the gate to save multiple people touching it. Car sharing will not be possible.
