There are layby close to the start point which you may be able to park in for no cost, at your own discretion.
Much of the walk is on open and exposed ground. Whilst the fells are lower lying there is little to no shelter along the proposed route. There are few steep sections.
A short section of the route (approx. 500m) is on narrow road.
Bad Weather alternative: The poor weather alternative is a loop around Tarn Hows visiting waterfalls and an option to ascend Tom Heights (subject to the group decision and conditions).
Route Description: From Yew Tree Farm walking north with steady ascent up the Fell before turning south to Holme Fell summit ‘crag’. We’ll walk North down the the ‘tail’ to the road. From here past Low Oxen Cottages & crossing the main road take the route up to Black Fell summit (322m). A steady descent follows to Tarn Hows, we’ll visit the viewpoint before returning to the car park via Tom Ghyll waterfalls.
