This walk we will be tackling the famous Sharp Edge if the weather permits. Starting from the small car park at the end of the road up from Scales we will take the gentle climb up to bottom of Scales Fell where we will decide on the ascent route. If the conditions are good we will carry along the low path that goes towards Scales Beck and then takes us up to Scales Tarn where we will then start the climb up Sharp Edge.
If the weather conditions are not good we will take the path up Scales Fell which is straight forward and the final section of the climb does ramp up the gradient to reach the summit.
Once at the summit hopefully we can enjoy the views of Clough Head, Derwent Water, Skiddaw and towards Ullswater. From the summit we will head straight of the front on to Hall’s Fell and make our way down the ridge. This is a nice easy ridge decent that has paths for the people that would rather not climb over rocks to get down.
Once at the bottom of Hall’s Fell we will walk down the path to the farm at Gategill then head on to the road up from Threlkeld, bearing left and heading along the road, through the gate then on to the path that takes up on to the path along side the A66 which will then take us a short walk back to the start of the walk.
This route is not recommended for dogs and will involve scrambling.
