Part 1 of a weekend of walking in the border country! Dependent on weather conditions this walk may be swapped with the Loch Skeen walk on the Sunday so as to make the most of any clear weather. Any changes will be advertised on the Friday.

This is an unreccied walk, the description is taken from the Cicerone guide.

Route:From the parking area follow the forest road leading west signposted ‘Bodesbeck Law, Etterick Horseshoe’ then fork left to Longhope Burn. Climb steadily to Bodesbeck Col (474m) then leave the track and follow the dyke as it zig zags to the top of White Shank (620m) and then traces the route right the way round to Etterick Pen (692m) with the wall converting to a fence at Smidehope Hill. Following this boundary the trail drops down to Etterick Head before rising again onto the second ridge at Wind Fell. Continue along the ridge northeast for nearly 2 miles to Etterick Pen then leave the guiding fence behind and take to the open fell to descend for half a mile to a tin shed before dropping to the bothy in the valley bottom. From here follow the Southern Upland Way across the woodenbridge and back to the cars.
On a good day this route should provide some fab views, especially over Eskdalemuir.

Please text Mel on 07584303975 by 5pm on the Friday if you are coming on this walk as will be out of signal once camping for the weekend
